Pierre Carlier recently retired from the position as executive vice president of industry at Electricité de France and was elected WANO President at the Seoul Biennial General Meeting on 19 March 2002.

 He was responsible for the utility's research and design, engineering, generation and transmission activities. Mr. Carlier joined EDF in 1963 and served in various management positions related to the operation and maintenance of nuclear and conventional thermal power plants and in training activities in France. He is a graduate of Lille Engineering Institute and Saclay School of Reactor Technology & Engineering.
