New Chairman for WANO

 

The Governing Board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) announced today that Mr. Hajimu Maeda, Senior Advisor at Kansai Electric Power Company, succeeds Dr. Zack Pate as Chairman of WANO. Dr. Pate steps down after five years as Chairman. The announcement was made following the recent WANO Governing Board meeting in Kiev, Ukraine.

 

WANO is a worldwide organisation that promotes safe and reliable operation at 429 member commercial nuclear plants in 32 countries. In accepting the Chairmanship Mr. Maeda said, "I am deeply honoured to become WANO Chairman and look forward to the challenges ahead. WANO has contributed greatly to significant improvements in nuclear safety and I look forward to sustaining the contribution of my predecessors."

 

At the Kiev meeting, the WANO Governing Board also elected Dr. Pate Chairman Emeritus.
