Completion of 200th WANO Peer Review

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) completed its 200th Peer Review at South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, Ukraine, on Friday 4th July 2003.

Completion of the 200th review demonstrates strong commitment from all nuclear operators around the world to compare their performance against the best industry standards. Peer Review teams are comprised of a team of experts from around the world.

The programme started in 1992 and has grown to become one of WANO’s most valuable activities. The 100th peer review was held at Krško NPP, Slovenia, in September 1999.

WANO is moving towards completing peer reviews at every nuclear power station worldwide by 2005. Subsequently, WANO peer reviews will be conducted at every nuclear power plant at least every six years. Twenty-one nuclear power stations in ten countries have already hosted their second peer review and some stations have had three peer reviews.

The objective of this programme is to encourage the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants throughout the world.

For more information about WANO programmes, including peer reviews, contact the WANO Coordinating Centre, Telephone:  +44 (0) 20 7478 9200.
