At the recent World Nuclear Association (WNA) Annual Symposium in
London, Mr Hajimu Maeda, the WANO Chairman, accepted the WNA’s 2002
award on behalf of WANO. The award cited WANO “for its historic
achievement in unifying the world nuclear industry to attain the
highest standard of safety in nuclear power operations and thereby
for its distinguished contribution to the peaceful worldwide use of
nuclear energy.”
The award was presented by the WNA chairman, Mr Gerald Grandey. In
making the presentation he congratulated WANO, its members and the
previous and current chairmen on the exceptional progress the
worlds’ nuclear operators have made in improving both safety and
reliability since WANO’s inauguration in 1989.
Individual awards were also made to the three previous chairmen in
recognition of their contributions to WANO’s success. Mr Andrew
Clarke, former Coordinating Centre Director accepted Lord Marshall’s
award, on behalf of Lady Marshall, and Mr Remy Carle and Dr Zack T.
Pate received their awards in person.
